Educated at St Andrews College (Dublin), Walter first became involved in the IT sector in 1985 with Pascal Computers. Following a period in Canada, he returned to Ireland in 1987 and took up a position in a sales role at Time Packaging & Display (a member of the Smurfit Corrugated Division). In 1989, Walter was appointed as a senior sales consultant with Comal Computers. He was appointed as Sales Director to Access Accounting (Software) Ltd in 1996 and with Dave Hudson, helped to establish that brand as an early leader in the Windows based accounting software market in Ireland.

Over a 10 year period, Walter went on to sell over 400 solutions into the small and medium sector in the Republic and North of Ireland. During this period, Walter pioneered the adoption of a Project Management Methodology unique to the Small and Medium sector. The creation of this service enabled small and medium sized companies to deploy often complex solutions quickly and with minimal disruption to the day-to-day operation of the business.

Walter and Dave sold the business to Access Accounting UK in 2005. At that time Walter was appointed as Sales Manager with the new company. He resigned from Access in April 2007 and took up his position as Managing Director of Greenrock Technologies Ltd in November 2007.
